What a cookie is
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store on your device. Cookies are used to make a site work, to remember choices you have made, and in some cases to measure how a site is used or to support advertising.
Our approach
Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations and UK GDPR, we may only set cookies that are not strictly necessary once you have given permission. So this website loads nothing beyond the strictly necessary category until you make a choice on the cookie banner. Rejecting is exactly as easy as accepting.
Our fonts are hosted on this website rather than loaded from a third party service, so no external company is contacted before you have chosen.
Where a measurement service is used, we apply Google Consent Mode. Denial is set as the default before any Google tag is allowed to load, so nothing is stored on your device until you choose to allow it.
The categories we use
Strictly necessary, always on
These make the website and its security work and remember your cookie choice. They cannot be switched off. They include a cookie named “rr_consent”, which records which categories you allowed and the date and time you chose, and lasts up to 180 days. WordPress may also set short lived cookies if you log in to the site or if a form is protected against misuse.
Analytics, off until you allow it
These help us understand which pages people find useful so we can improve the site. They are only loaded if you allow the analytics category.
We use Google Analytics for this. If you allow the analytics category, Google sets cookies named “_ga” and “_ga_” followed by a property identifier, which last up to two years and are used to tell one visit apart from another and to measure how the site is used. Google acts as our processor for this, and data may be transferred outside the UK under the safeguards Google puts in place. You can read how Google handles it at policies.google.com/privacy, and you can opt out of Google Analytics in any browser using the Google Analytics opt out add on.
Until you allow the analytics category, we instruct Google not to use any storage on your device. This means no analytics cookies are set, and no advertising identifiers are read, unless and until you agree.
Marketing, off until you allow it
These support advertising and remarketing. They are only loaded if you allow the marketing category. If we run Google advertising, allowing this category permits cookies used to measure whether an advert led to an enquiry, and to show our adverts to people who have visited before.
Changing your mind
Select “Cookie Settings” in the footer of any page to reopen the banner and change or withdraw your choice at any time. You can also delete cookies through your browser settings, though doing so will mean the banner asks you again on your next visit.
Proof of your choice
Your choice is stored with the date and time it was made, so both you and we can see what was agreed and when.
