Solar panels are fitted to a roof, which makes the roof part of the job. Plenty of installations are done by electricians who treat the covering as something to get through, and the leak shows up the following winter.

Where a roof is close to the end of its life, we will tell you before the panels go on rather than after, because taking an array off to replace a roof underneath it is an expensive way to find out.
